Volunteers wanted !
The Dad’s Army Museum and the Charles Burrell museum are launching a volunteers drive. The following article appeared in the February issue of About Thetford.
Both museums receive visitors from all corners of the
globe but there is no question that as a result of the
publicity that the Van has already attracted 2013 is
poised to be our busiest year yet and in order to cope
with the demand we need to attract more volunteers.
The van will be housed at Charles Burrell Museum and
they will be looking to change their opening hours to
every Saturday to ensure as many people as possible
have access to the new exhibit - so there are
opportunities at both museums.
Do you have to be an expert on Dad's Army or
Charles Burrell? No.......however we guarantee you will
become a fan and a valued part of a friendly team.
You can help the museums as a Volunteer by
• Working in the Museum talking to visitors and
making them welcome.
• Helping in Marigold's Tea Rooms or behind the
scenes baking cakes at home.
• Training as a Tour Guide or Tour Assistant for our
public tours guiding visitors around the Thetford
locations.
• Being 'front line' as part of the events team
promoting aid marketing the museum at outside
events.
• Being part of me Jones' Van team helping
maintain the vehicle or talking to visitors about it.
• Manning the desks as part of the valuable
`backroom' staff helping with administration and
organisation whether it be helping satisfy orders
from our on me shops or dealing with enquiries or
event planning or planning new displays
working on new merchandise or............
There are many opportunities to become a Dad's
Army and Charles Burrell Volunteer and you can give as much
or as much time as you want to - we have some
volunteers that work every week through the season, we
have others that work for 2 hours in the year so there
really is something for everyone and whatever you can
commit to, you will be helping both museums to be a
Thetford success.
We all know that volunteers played a crucial part in the
success of the Olympics last year - now the is your
chance to get involved much closer to home, come
join our happy team!
Please get in touch or come and speak to some to some
existing volunteers at a special drop m event at
Thetford Guildhall on Saturday 16th February 10-12pm.
